Where were we? Oh yes, “No more, please.” The house does not want us to move. While cleaning the windows two of them decided to break.
One wouldn’t lock and the other one wouldn’t stay up. We have a lifetime warranty on the windows, so we called for help. The new owners will have windows that have just been checked and adjusted. With the new HVAC unit installed the new owners have no worries for ten years. The solar panels and roof are less than two years old,
and Jane’s kitchen hardly had time to get any dings.
Life is a funny journey.
There’s more. The water bill arrived.
There was no time wasted dialing customer service. The computer informed me I was the 28th caller in line. After a period of time I was given the option to keep my place in line and receive a call back. This choice is the one for me so I don’t have to keep listening to the music they play. The next day I called again and spoke to a living human being. The final bill was back to normal and all is well.
One more thing. The new owners will have a brand-new pool heater. Here is that story. The part that was broken got replaced and we were in working order until the next morning. The technician explained to me that the unit was old, and we would probably continue to replace parts as they gave up. I wondered why no one thought to share that with me before we installed the part the day before. There was a discussion with the company and the part we paid for previously was deducted from the cost of a new unit. This unit still costs as much as the HVAC system did.
The old unit will be replaced two days before we move out. No more please.
The next blog post will be published after we are settled in our new eighteenth floor apartment. We have no idea what more will transpire before we are settled in Orlando, but we will continue to enjoy the adventure.
We have had moments of frustration during this move. Sometimes we threw our hands up in despair. But we have kept perspective on what this experience is and how it relates to the world around us. Except for those few moments when we felt overwhelmed, we have found humor and have related to the house like it is a living thing. Our issues are all first world problems. Most of the world’s population would love to be in our place and we know how fortunate we are. We are not going to bed hungry at night. Our neighborhood is not under attack, and we still have the freedoms our constitution promises. We are doing well and are gearing up to make the most of our new adventure in a retirement community, some might call a resort. There is something to that thought and I plan to take advantage of the many offerings. While I was waiting for my turn for the cognitive acuity test at the new place, I noticed an announcement for the Wednesday ice cream happy hour followed by a beer happy hour at 4:00. I think I’ll manage quite nicely, thank you.
Speaking of the cognitive acuity test; Jane aced it. I think I scored about a 76. (It is a pass fail test to be honest.) The nurse giving the test was named Ebony to which I exclaimed, “They publish a magazine after you.” She shared she got her moniker because her father’s name was Ivory. I postulated that Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder sang a song about them. I think that was proof to Ebony that I had issues. I did remember ‘Ball, Car and Man’ though. “What season is it?” was a tough question for me so I exclaimed, “Florida only has two seasons so, I guess this is winter.” I don’t know if that was the correct answer or not. Anyway, I scored enough to still be admitted to the new place with Jane. It helped that Jane tested first giving Ebony the opportunity to like her and some of that probably rubbed off on me.
One more thing about the new place. The gal who has been walking us through the entrance process was born on January 3. We now believe we are twins. We were hugging each other and announcing our twinship to passersby when she suggested we were twins with different mothers. She is ebony and I am ivory and we were side by side just like on McCartney’s piano. This is going to be so much fun.
I think Miss More would be happy in our new place.
See you next time.
